Instead of boring you all with my nonsensical ramblings that were meant to be anecdotes that turned into essays, I thought that I would break up the trip into sections, and the one that deserves the most of a mention is Atlantis, at the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.
We booked into a lovely Imperial Suite as it worked out quite a fair bit cheaper than a regular room, with my discount and it included happy hour, snacks 24×7 and breakfast for us both! Not to mention access to the Lost Chambers Aquarium and unlimited access to Aquaventure water park…probably one of the highlights of our 24 hours in paradise! After a few hiccups with check in (that later cost us 10 days worth of emails back and forth with the accounts people at the hotel…) we were in our room and it was TO DIE FOR! The whole thing was underwater or “mermaid” themed, as I like to believe, and it was gorgeous. We got free water, fruit, drinks, choccies and a turn down service (just like being at home 😉 ) We decided to have a snack (all the opulence made us hungry) and then hit the slides! We went on them all, even opting to take the “rapids” when the pavement was too hot to walk on or when we just got too plain lazy to walk. My favourite slide was the Anaconda, a huge 6 seater tube that rolls about a watery maze and even a 10m straight drop where the tube left the slide! Crazy! My least favourite was the “Leap of Faith”. Not because it was really high up, but because the slide takes you through the aquarium, yet you cant see a thing because the slide is so fast that your eyes a fused with all the water in your face! I think James quite loved that one, but! The Shark Attack was also cool, we got to go through a portion of the slide that was in the Aquarium (sharks and all) and it was short but very sweet (you can see that in the video below). Perhaps the highlight of the stay was meeting James, from Geordie Shore. When my James told me that he was staying at Atlantis too, I joked “yes, that’s why we’re were, we can meet up with him!” And then we did, after we spotted him leaving the pool and then he was heading in the same direction as us. After James and James struck up a conversation, and I lurked awkwardly in the background (good one, Taylor) we had our token selfie. Life made!
After our day in the sun, it was time to hit up happy hour! And happy it was, we must’ve had a collective total of over 10 cocktails 😉 After our Italian bistro dinner, we were off to explore the aquarium in our merry state! The most amazing thing about the aquarium is that A) it has mini hammerhead sharks and B) the whole part of the Aquarium that you can see in the hotel is 100% completely open, and located under some of the hotel balconies…somehow that would never happen in Australia! The aquarium had lots of rare aquatic creatures, including jellyfish, moray eels, blue bottles and even trilobites, the first ever multi cellular organisms! (Sorry, the biology nerd in me is coming out but they ARE really cool and you could touch them!)
The next day, after breakfast, we went to the beach to cool off, only to find that the water was quite deep, but albeit warm. James was very impressed by the chairs, towels and slushy man at the beach too 🙂 After our cool off at the “beach”, it was time to properly cool off in the pool that was probably as big as a football pitch in total (slight exaggeration, but it is huge! It was so nice to take in the view, the cool water and the warm weather, especially for James seeing as it is so cold at home right now. After we swam, we packed, said goodbye to our beautiful room and headed to the Mall of the Emirates. The rest of our time was spent eating Shake Shack burgers, Japansese take away, delivered to our door, going to the gym and packing for our Canadian trip…more updates to follow.
p.s I am smashing these blog posts out, as we speak I am flying from Seattle en route to Dubai and after that I shall (hopefully) be in Perth for a few days seeing my amazing family and catching up with my beautiful friends! So I apologise in advance if these posts are a bit hard to follow! xx
