Swift Sydney Visit

Sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Sometimes, that involves booking a spur of the moment, spontaneous trip to Sydney, to make the pilgrimage to see Queen Tay. (Taylor Swift, obviously) My best friend and I have been slightly obsessed with her since we were about 15, relating a whole bunch of overly emotional songs to boys that a) in fact did not exist and b) didn’t actually realise we existed. We’ve come a long way since writing her lyrics all over our Biology and Chemistry textbooks Now they just over-populate  Instagram instead 😉

Seeing as my staff travel hasn’t come into effect as yet, there were no discounts involved. How I used to regularly fork out for full price fares is beyond me. They just keep skyrocketing! Thank goodness for staff travel, and dare I say it, standby). We were able to use the new Business Lounge which is a plus! It is astounding, just ask Megan Gale who was at the opening 🙂 I am even more excited about the lounges now because, *drumroll please* I will be moving into the Lounge Team very soon! I applied and was successful for a relief position, which means I will hopefully be trained to assist in the Club and Business Lounges when they are busy, and maybe work there on a more permanent basis, depending on their requirements!! I must say that I am quite happy with the outcome…great things happen when you put yourself out there, and if you don’t try you’ll never really know. I think it’s better to have less regrets than missed opportunities altogether!

So, in the spirit of being impulsive and having zero regrets, a weekend trip to Sydney with Aly was on the cards! We flew out at 5:50am on Saturday after I had worked a night shift the night before, and she had a work Christmas party. We were so tired, but so excited to be going that it literally didn’t matter if our eyes were practically hanging out of our heads. I’m pretty used to travelling on next to no sleep so it was all good!

We arrived at our hotel, and after changing rooms a few times (they were definitely not up to standard) we finally had some sushi and a nap. The smallest nap ever, actually, but when we awoke it was time to hurriedly get ready, jump in a taxi and feast on an unimaginable amount of much appreciated carbs at Jamie’s Italian. We have one in Perth, too, but the Sydney Jamie’s is just a little bit cooler because it’s been there for longer, it’s bigger and new to us, so therefore better!

Some tagliatelle and mojitos later, we ordered another taxi and headed towards the ANZ Stadium with approximately 75 998 other people. Once we got there, we discovered it would’ve been much easier (and cheaper) to catch the train, so we vowed to do this on the way home. We showed our tickets, were given some mystery wrist bands (all was revealed during the show) and we found our seats. Seeing as our tickets were purchased off a resale site, we were a bit dubious about if we would actually receive the tickets, and if we did, would our seats be worth the inflated price?!

The answer was no, were weren’t ripped off, and yes, the tickets were less than 50m away, elevated to the left hand side of the stage with a near perfect view!! Much better than being 2km away but forward facing the stage! The show was amazing, I am biased but it did receive positive reviews from other reputable sources that aren’t me! Here are some pictures to make you feel like you too were there to Shake it Off!

The rest of the weekend was spent sweltering on the ferry, at the zoo, in the Sydney Tower, at Bondi and in the city Shopping. It was a lovely weekend in yet another place that I used to frequent while flying, that I finally got to experience with a bit more time and depth! My New Year’s resolution is to enjoy where I am and to travel to more of the places that I haven’t actually been to! With this in mind, I am very much looking forward to Coachella on the 15-17th of April in Palm Springs, California! Woo Hoo!!

BONDI

There is much to happen before then, including lots of work, my birthday, James coming back from working in NSW and the minor detail that I am having some pretty heavy foot surgery in January, to correct some bones who seem to have minds of their own.

I will be immobile, unable to work and unable to exercise…but at least I will have plenty of time to write and think and possibly study! I know it might seem crazy, but I don’t like being bored, and another educational notch on the belt is not something I want to turn down! I will leave you with some pictures of my holiday season. Most of them I remember being taken, and I can safely say that no champagne bottle was left unloved over the break 😛

New Years Eve

New Years Eve

Happy New Year and I look forward to sharing this one with you all! It’s not necessarily going to be off to a flying start, but I think I’ll be making up for lost time with a few trips later on in the year once I’m all better! I think it’s important not to label myself as “traveller” or a “wanderer” or a passport stamp collector. Yes, I flew for a living, yes, I like planes, and of course I love travelling, who doesn’t?! My experiences make me who I am. But I also love the comforts of home, of the nice weather, of family and friends and work and routine and exercise. All of those things are equally as important, if not more than, being a nomadic gypsy and living out of a suitcase or the back of your car. Who knows? Maybe I’ll do that again one day! 🙂 Everything in moderation: that is my mantra for this year! And I’m going to try and stick to it! So, if you are in the stages of changing careers, planning a holiday, moving, or just at a crossroad in your life- go with it. That is just as, if Nothing is concrete, or certain, unless you make it to be. Nothing is perfect unless you believe it to be. As long as you are happy where you are, thats all that matters!

All the best for your journey into another year!

Taylor x
