Layover Crasher: Zurich

image

As I mentioned in my previous posts, I went to Zurich! The only difference was, instead of working, I slept all the way there, watched 2 Broke Girls and ate avocado and vegemite on crackers! That’s right, I wasn’t being lazy, I went on my days off…as a passenger! Two of my friends here, Jane and Liza, were operating the flight together! The service was EXCELLENT!

Once we got to Zurich, I got on the crew bus with the girls (the Purser was lovely and let me tag along!) and we checked in, had a cheeky drink and went straight out to explore the city. We caught the train into the city centre and explored the main square. We stopped to take countless photos, eat pretzels and buy postcards (even thought the city looks like a living postcard itself!).

Eventually we wandered around to Lake Zurich and fed the big, white swans. That probably doesn’t sound like much to most of you, but seeing as I am from Western Australia, which is renowned for our signature black swans, I was very excited!

After we fed the swans and were invited to a Swiss Movie Festival (which we politely declined, for obvious reasons such as; we do not understand German, take invitations from strange men with no teeth or have any clue where anything in in Zurich), we had some cheese fondue.

A little tip for you: in Switzerland, cheese fondue is a tradition, and any restaurant that has a cow protruding off its roof (or similar) indicates a good fondue! So we found a cow, sat down and let the waiter order for us. We ended up with a traditional cheese fondue (made up of chives, cheese, cream, butter, garlic and probably more unhealthy, unimaginable ingredients), that was served with toasted bread on huge forks (for dipping) and then we had pork and veal sausages, that came out on a cooker and we cooked the meat ourselves! It is a wonder none of us managed to give ourselves food poisoning, and the food was surprisingly tasty! During dinner, the waiter spilled a glass of wine on one of the girls by accident, so he proceeded to give us a free bottle, and then some shots after we paid our bill. I have no idea what it was, but it tasted like liquorice….so I was not a massive fan!

After we made it back to the hotel, we fell asleep in minutes. I woke up early and went for a walk around the hotel, then we had breakfast and the 3 of us walked around behind the hotel, in the forest and around a nearby village. It was beautiful! The layover went too quick (as always) and we were back to the airport in no time! I snuck in a quick Lindt hot chocolate before boarding and slept all the way back to Dubai (luckily, seeing as I had to go to Milan the next afternoon!)

More coming up soon! x
