After all of the excitement of my graduation and fun trip to Sydney, it was time for me to be on holidays and have almost 3 weeks of leave…yay! Well actually it turned out to be 3 weeks of leave because I had days off on either side, which will hopefully work out really well! My leave started the minute I landed from Sydney, and I was relieved! The flight is a long one for starters, never mind when there is a bit of drama on board, too. So I started off with a nice, relaxing bath (one of my favourite things to do) and then proceeded to sort out/ tidy/ clean my apartment for when James came, and because it hadn’t been done in a really, really long time 😐 After a day of pampering, I went to Waitrose and picked up some snacks for us and some bits and pieces for dinner. It was my turn to cook for the girls and I made my famous lasagne! It’s my dad’s recipe, but I have now adopted it for myself. It was a HUGE hit 😉 of course, where there is lasagne there are movies and where there are movies there are scary ones, and tea and tim tams and then we stayed up until 3am waiting for our horror flick to stop buffering and start playing! I wasn’t too worried, because James was due to fly in at 5am and I thought that he would like a snooze before we set off to the shops. WRONG!
After he came in almost 2 hours delayed, we went back to mine, he had a shower and just as I was about to crawl into bed, he says “where to first?”. Needless to say I was a bit of a zombie that day, but we went for breakfast at Social House, one of our favourite eateries in Dubai, at the mall. It is perfect for our group of friends, because it has Asian, Italian, Mexican and sushi all on one menu, and it is open from 9am until all hours! (The best option for a bunch of indecisive, constantly hungry girls who sleep at all hours of the day and night!). I digress, yet again….I’m pretty good at that 😉 After James inhaled a giant portion of eggs Benedict (no less than three eggs on a footlong sub with melted cheese, smoked salmon AND turkey bacon) we went for a walk around the shops…before they were even open! This is a first for us; usually we are supremely lazy and perpetually late, never having to wait around for anything to open! After a bit of shopping, admiring the biggest aquarium in the world, the indoor theme park and a quick stop at Laudrée, we decided to go and see 22 Jump Street. We were a bit miffed when we realised that it was in fact banned from Dubai screens after being deemed “ Inappropriate”. We made plans to see it in Canada, instead 😉
That night, after a nap and a quick drink to introduce James to the girls, we were off to At.mosphere at the Burj Khalifa, a bar that is situated on the 122nd floor of the tallest building in the world. It was a great way to start of our holiday, with a couple of drinks and a tapas style dinner, consisting of REAL wagyu beef steak patties and perfect melty cheese sliders! YUM!
Here are some pictures of the start of our mammoth 3 week adventure! 🙂
